چکیده
Introduction: Spontaneous retroperitoneal hematoma is a relatively rare condition that usually occurs in patients receiving anticoagulation therapy or those with a history of hemophilia. The presentation may vary from mild abdominal discomfort to acute hemodynamic collapse. Given the potential for exsanguination, it is important to detect this potentially life-threatening condition early for appropriate management. Case Report: In this report, we discuss an uncommon presentation of a retroperitoneal hematoma in which the patient initially sought treatment for thigh and ankle pain related to a recent minor trauma. During the course of her evaluation over several days, a diagnosis of acute meralgia paresthetica was entertained and treated with relief of her symptoms. However, an evolving retroperitoneal hematoma was subsequently identified as the cause of her condition. Conclusion: Physicians should be aware of this seemingly benign presentation of a life-threatening retroperitoneal Jibanananda Satpathy1, Varatharaj Mounasamy2, Gregory Golladay3, James Phillip Reynolds4 Affiliations: 1MD, Assistant Professor, Orthopedic Surgery, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, United States; 2MD, Associate Professor, Director of Orthopedic Trauma, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, United States; 3MD, Associate Professor, Orthopedic Surgery, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, United States; 4BS, Medical Student, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, United States. Meralgia paresthetica affecting parturient women who underwent cesarean section -A case report-
Meralgia paresthetica is commonly caused by a focal entrapment of lateral femoral cuteneous nerve while it passes the inguinal ligament. Common symptoms are paresthesias and numbness of the upper lateral thigh area. Pregnancy, tight cloths, obesity, position of surgery and the tumor in the retroperitoneal space could be causes of meralgia paresthetica. A 29-year-old female patient underwent an ...

BACKGROUND We describe a case report where a young woman presented with persistent bilateral anterior hip pain whose diagnosis was obscure for many months. CASE PRESENTATION The symptoms started three months after she underwent laparoscopic surgery, with entry portals on both iliac regions of her abdomen. After a thorough clinical examination, a working diagnosis of "Meralgia paresthetica" wa...
متن کاملTransforaminal Epidural Steroid Application in Treatment of Meralgia Paresthetica: A Case Report
Meralgia paresthetica is a mononeuropathy which occurs as result of lateral femoral cutaneous nerve being under pressure at groin level; with numbness, pains and needles, and pain at external collateral and anterior thigh and inguinal region. Its treatment is conservative and surgical. In our study, we intended to present our clinical evaluation as result of transforaminal epidural steroid appl...
متن کاملVariable origin and ramification pattern of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve: a case report and neurosurgical considerations.
Variations in the anatomy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (LFCN) have been reported in the literature. LFCN is vulnerable to injury during several surgical operations, therefore any surgeon intervening in the area should be familiar to its topographic variability. Lesion of the nerve leads to a condition known as "meralgia paresthetica". We present a cadaveric case of a variant LFCN wher...

Compressive femoral and lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathies from an iliacus hematoma are unusual presentation. We report a case of a 16-year-old boy who developed right femoral and lateral femoral cutaneous neuropathies as a complication of traumatic ipsilateral iliacus hematoma formation. The patient complained of numbness in the right thigh and calf as well as right leg weakness, and pain ...
